Pediatric Dentistry

Your child’s first visit to our office should be an enjoyable one.  Remember, as a parent, it’s important to remain positive about dental check-ups. Our office makes a special effort to use non-frightening simple words to describe dental treatment with your child.

Age One Visit

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends children see a pediatric dentist by the age of one or when the first tooth erupts, whichever comes first.   We know this is surprising for some parents. However, it’s important to visit the dentist early on to learn proper oral hygiene techniques to avoid dental problems for your child. These early visits set the stage for your child’s oral health for many years to come.

Erupting Teeth

Primary (or “baby”) teeth begin to erupt between 6 and 12 months of age. During this teething phase, your child’s gums may be tender and sore.  To alleviate discomfort, you can try using teething rings or rubbing your clean finger or cool, wet washcloth across them.

Your Baby’s Hygiene Routine

At the first sign of teeth erupting, it’s important to start examining your child’s mouth regularly to look for signs of decay.  You should begin brushing your child’s teeth as soon as the first tooth arrives. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and pea sized amount of toothpaste.  Sugary foods and beverages can damage your child’s teeth so be sure to brush after each feeding.

Routine Dental Check-Ups

For a strong and healthy smile, it’s important to take your child to the dentist every six months for a check-up and cleaning. We may recommend tooth sealants for your child to protect the deep grooves in your child’s teeth and prevent decay.

Small BIG practice. They have several offices but they focus on the little things that small practices have and big don't. Like on-time appointments and taking time with little kids that panic. Have always impressed me.
